WHAT WE DO
At Louis Black Productions, we aim to preserve, conserve, and highlight Texas based independent films. We do this through film restoration, in depth book projects, and our Texas Independent Film Archive.
Louis Black Productions primary focus is the restoration and promotion of Texas independent films. We have several projects completed including Eagle Pennell’s Whole Shootin’ Match (1978) and Last Night at the Alamo (1984); 1981’s Jonathan Demme Presents: Made in Texas, six short films from Austin; and Tobe Hooper’s 1969 film Eggshells. We also curate retrospectives of Austin filmmakers and filmmakers who have made important Texas independent films.
Louis Black Productions works on the accumulation of Texas independent film history in many different formats, including book projects. Our current book projects include the Cinematexas Program Notes Vol. 1 (expected Spring 2017), the Page Two book, and a biography of Eagle Pennell.
The Collection of Texas Independent Film holds special collections for various independent film projects in Texas. Our holdings include the Brian Hansen papers, David Boone papers, and the Mask of Sarnath Collection. All collections are available for research or licensing.
