Collection Mission Statement

The Collection of Texas Independent Film collects, preserves, and provides access to short and feature length films shot in and around Texas.  We highlight the significant contributions to the regional cinema of Texas.

 

Overview

The Collection of Texas Independent Film collects film stock (8mm, 16mm, 35mm), video and digital on a case by case basis, paper materials (scripts, letters, photographs), and other items related to the production of a film project.

Selection Criteria

The Collection of Texas Independent Film acquires material related to the kinds of projects listed below.  Selection criteria includes condition, association with the other collections, and completeness.  In certain cases, items that fall outside of these categories will be considered based on content, historical and local significance, and other factors.

 

SHORT FILMS

  • 8mm, 16mm, and 35mm stock (includes trims, negatives, etc.)
  • Scripts, correspondences, letters, etc.
  • Photographs associated with the production.

 

FEATURE FILMS

  • 8mm, 16mm, and 35mm stock (includes trims, negatives, etc.)
  • Scripts, correspondences, letters, etc.
  • Photographs associated with the production.

 

PRESS RELATED FILM HISTORY

  • Press Kits
  • Newspaper clippings and stories about specific film projects.
  • Promotional material associated with a film production.

 

VARIOUS FILM HISTORY

  • Movie posters from silent era through contemporary film.  Includes all sizing and formats.
  • Lobby Cards (films, serials, etc.)
  • Alternative artwork, not formally associated with the production.

 

The Collection does not generally collect the following materials

  • Industrial and educational films
  • Home movies
  • Commercials and Trailers
  • Films that do not have a strong connection to Texas
  • Major studio or non independent features or shorts
